One person has been injured after a car collided with a tree early this morning (July 17) that ended up closing a County Durham road.
Emergency services were called to the A68 Allensford Bank between Castleside and Allensford to reports of a crash just before 7am this morning.
Durham Police have now confirmed that one person was injuried in the collision, but luckily only faces minor injuries described as “walking wounded”.

Motorists faced long delays around the area whilst police worked to clear the site, advising motorists to stay away from the area “for some time” to allow them to work at the scene.
The road was closed for just over an hour and was re-opened at around 9am to let traffic flow through again.

A statement from Durham Police reads: “Police were called shortly before 7am today to a one-vehicle collision on the A68 between Castleside and Allensford.
“A car left the road and collided with a tree, leaving the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle with injuries described as ‘walking wounded’.
“The road was closed for around one-and-a-half hours to allow for recovery of the vehicle.”
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Allensford Bank at 6.44am this morning.
"We dispatched one ambulance crew and transported one patient to University Hospital of North Durham."
