One person has been taken to hospital following a collision on a County Durham road early this morning (July 16).

The North East Ambulance Service has confirmed that one person has been taken to hospital following a collision on the junction of Eliza Lane and Longedge Lane in Consett just after 8.30am.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the junction of Eliza lane and Longedge Lane in Consett shortly after 8.30am this morning.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew, a rapid response paramedic and two clinical team leaders, and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance.

"We transported one patient by road to University Hospital of North Durham."

Longedge Lane, which is located just off the A68 was closed as emergency services dealt with the incident.

Durham Constabulary also confirmed they were in attendance at the scene.

It reads: "Officers are currently dealing with an RTC on Longedge Lane between Lanchester and Rowley. The surrounding roads are also closed."
