A petition has been started to 'put an end' to the stench of Newton Aycliffe after years of suffering.
The town had been known for its vibrant community and beautiful surroundings but it has been plagued by a noxious smell for months.
Some residents have described the smell as making them feel 'physically sick'.
The petition is calling for local authorities and environmental agencies to investigate the source of the smell and eliminate it.

Health concerns, negative impacts on tourism, decreased property values and environmental implications have all been mentioned as reasons to stop the smell.
Valentine Taylorsholl described how the smell has been getting worse.
She said: "The awful smell in Newton Aycliffe makes me feel sick.
"You can smell it as you drive into the industrial estate.
"It was terrible last night, I had to close all the windows."
The petition, started by Anonymous Aycliffe, states that the smell is damaging the quality of life of the residents.

It reads: "The noxious odor permeating Newton Aycliffe poses potential health risks to its inhabitants.
"Studies have shown that exposure to strong odors can lead to respiratory problems, headaches, nausea, and even long-term health issues if not addressed promptly.
"The unrelenting stench in our town has had a detrimental effect on tourism and local businesses.
"Visitors are deterred from exploring our community due to the overpowering smell, resulting in lost revenue opportunities for local establishments."
Looking forward the petition hopes that Newton Aycliffe can have fresh air again.
Residents have left comments on the petition making their strong feelings known.
The petition has already been signed by 30 residents after being up less than 24 hours.
Nicola Smart said: "I hate the smell of the town, it makes me feel physically sick."
