A man has denied careless driving charges arising from an alleged collision with a motorcycle in which both the rider and pillion passenger suffered serious injuries.

Adam Bell is accused of two counts of driving a Citroen C1 car without due care and attention, on Cotsford Lane, Horden, causing serious injuries to the two men.

Durham Crown Court heard that one of the casualties, who was sitting behind the motorcycle rider, was said to have been “jettisoned” into the air, coming down and landing on the road next to a parked car.

The court was told he suffered serious wounds to his right thigh and a laceration to the right knee, while the rider suffered a broken leg and hip as a result of the collision.
