On Sunday afternoon, South Tyneside Festival got underway in Sunny South Shields. Yesterday’s show was the first of four weeks of free music inside Bents Park. Headliners The Vamps got the proceedings underway on what was an enjoyable afternoon in the North East.
Over the coming weeks, a stellar programme of entertainment will take place inside Bents Park. And once again, Sunday's festivities witnessed a huge crowd during what was a sun-kissed afternoon on the coast.
This year’s festival continued to highlight their commitment to showcasing local talent, with the first half of the event dedicated to North-East acts. Newcastle singer-songwriter, Lauren Amour and South Shields band, The Waiters, opened the show and thoroughly entertained the early birds in the audience.
TikTok star Henry Moodie wowed the South Shields audience. Fans at the front held up messages and signs for the rising star as he played original compositions such as Eighteen and Drunk Text. There was even room for a little bit of Taylor Swift in his set. The young artist delivered a set that highlighted the talents that have won the artist more than 101 million likes on Tik Tok.

The Vamps' headline appearance on Sunday afternoon was not the quartet's first time in Bents Park. The group performed at the South Tyneside Festival in 2018, and the band's fans were out in force once again for their return visit. But it wasn't just locals who showed up for the show. Many of those in front of the stage had travelled from as far afield as Austria and Spain to be present on Sunday afternoon.
Screams from the fans resonated around Bents Park as the four-piece made their entrance. The band lit up the stage with their high-energy performance during a twelve-song set. Favourites such as Somebody To You, All Night and Can We Dance were the perfect soundtrack to Sunday afternoon in Bents Park.
South Tyneside Festival will continue on Sunday 16th of July with headliner Jason Donovan. ABBA tribute Bjorn Again and Boyzlife will also grace the Bents Park stage during July. For further information, visit: https://www.southtynesidefestival.co.uk/.
