This afternoon (July 7) we asked readers to tell us their favourite beach, with seafronts from Northumberland to Teesside making an appearance.
Here’s a list of just a few of the beaches mentioned by readers – which is your top pick?
Bamburgh Beach, Northumberland
Located just south of Holy Island, Bamburgh Beach has been described as a “wonderful expansive sandy beach” by Google reviews and was mentioned multiple times by Echo readers.
Visitors can also enjoy spectacular views of Bamburgh Castle and the Farne islands before taking a dip in the sea and walking along the rocks.
Saltburn Beach, Saltburn
For residents from Saltburn-by-the-sea and Redcar, Saltburn Beach is a popular destination for families on a summers day, featuring rentable beach huts and plenty of local cafes to grab a bite to eat.
Visitors can also take a ride on the Saltburn Cliff Tramway and enjoy incredible views of the whole seaside before walking along the pier or the Saltburn Cliffs.
Sandhaven Beach, South Shields
Sunderland locals have been flocking to South Shields for many years to take a walk along Sandhaven Beach.
Described by Google reviews as “relaxing and enjoying”, South Shields visitors can take in the fresh air and enjoy views of Tynemouth Priory and Castle.
Also home to the Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, families with little ones can enjoy the sunny seaside before taking a trip to the amusements to play penny slot games.
