The North East is set to be hit by thunder and hail tomorrow as the Met Office issue a yellow warning.

Covering all of the North East the band of bad weather is set to take place from 9am until midnight tomorrow.

Much of the rest of the UK is also covered by the warning as the forecaster warns of the heavy rains about to hit.

The Met Office said: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected over parts of the UK on Saturday."

They went on to warn of the risks of flooding and potential damage to buildings from lightning.

Train services may be delayed by the extreme weather and they urged for people to take care driving in the rain.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

"Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
