A motorcyclist has been left hospitalised after a crash which closed a major road on Monday (July 3) evening.

It happened on the A689 in Hartlepool, near to the junction with Rossmere Way, shortly before 8pm with the road closed while emergency services, including the air ambulance, worked at the scene.

The 24-year-old rider of a blue Yamaha motorbike was left with multiple fractures to his leg and wrist following the crash with a black Vauxhall Insignia.

He was taken by paramedics to James Cook University Hospital.

Police have now launched an appeal for anyone with dashcam footage of the incident, or moments preceding it, to come forward to help with their enquiries.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “Police are appealing for witnesses and any dashcam or other footage after a collision in Hartlepool last night.

“We would appeal for anyone who can help our ongoing enquiries with information or footage from the moments before the collision and of the incident itself to contact Cleveland Police on the 101 number, quoting ref 130446.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We received a call to 999 at 8.51pm to reports of a road traffic collision on the A689, at the junction of Stockton Road and Rossmere Way in Hartlepool, between a car and motorbike.

“We sent air ambulance, a specialist paramedic and an emergency ambulance crew and took one male patient to James Cook Hospital with injuries to the leg."
