Emergency services closed the A66 in Middlesbrough on Sunday (July 2) evening after a serious collision saw fire engines, police cars and ambulances block the road for two hours.

Pictures from the scene showed a large 999 response on the A66 in Middlesbrough, near to the Cargo Fleet Lane junction roundabout at around 7.25pm. 

The road was closed for around two hours to allow the police to clear the multiple vehicles involved - and reopened at around 9.05pm.

At the time, Cleveland Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire brigade, police and ambulance are currently in attendance at Cargo Fleet Lane / A66 junction please avoid this area if possible," before following it up with a statement that read: "We remain in attendance dealing with a road traffic collision. Police and ambulance rapid response vehicle also in attendance."

North East Ambulance Service has since confirmed that they attended the scene, but managed to assess all patients at the scene - and reported that no one had been seriously injured in the incident.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Cargo Fleet Roundabout at 7.26pm. We dispatched a rapid response paramedic, who assessed and discharged those on scene."

A Cleveland Police spokesperson added: "The A66 eastbound carriageway was closed around 7:25pm last night, Sunday 2nd July, whilst officers dealt with a collision close to McDonalds.

"No one was injured and the vehicles involved were recovered.

"The road was reopened by 9.05pm."
