A year on from petrol hitting £2 a litre at some pumps across the North East prices have dropped up to 70p in some areas.

The cost of refuelling shot up to extraordinary heights last year but prices have come back down.

In May the average price of a litre of diesel came down by a whopping 12p to 146.99p, while petrol dropped by 3.19p to 167.19p.

A litre of unleaded will, on average, set you back 143.86p while diesel will cost 145.54p.

Here is a list of all the cheapest fuel prices in County Durham, Darlington and Teesside (as of June 30), according to price comparison website PetrolPrices:

Durham
