An Indian restaurant popular with celebs is celebrating after securing a spot in The Good Food Guide.
For the first time Dosa Kitchen in Jesmond, Newcastle has been included in the so-called food bible, where it has been heaped with praise for its “super fair” pricing and “vibrant inclusive” atmosphere.
The restaurant specialises in authentic southern Indian cuisine and has racked up a host of celebrity fans from Hairy Biker Si Kind to Place in the Sun’s Johnny Irvine.

Its namesake menu item, the dosa, was praised in The Good Food Guide’s review which said they are “roasted with homemade ghee or stuffed with the house potato masala” and are “big, crisp and shiny, while the parathas are gloriously ragged and the pooris puffy.”
Co-owner, Sudharsan Murugavel is delighted that the restaurant has now been recognised by The Good Food Guide and that it has singled out so many different aspects of Dosa Kitchen.
“We pride ourselves on offering a really authentic experience and the real food of southern India,” he said.
“So to have had this acknowledged by such a prestigious publication is fantastic for us.
“We believe we are the only place in the North East to offer sapaad - a set menu with a choice of vegetarian, non-vegetarian and children’s options– where the menu is made of a selection of different dishes which cover the six ayurvedic tastes - sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent and astringent -accompanied by rice and dosa.

The restaurant had humble beginnings in 2015 as a pop-up before it set up shop at its Jesmond site just off Osborne Road.
It also has a unit at Stack Seaburn trading as its Big Fat Indian Kitchen.
