The fire service was summoned to attend to a car engine which was ablaze at traffic lights near to a busy junction over the A1(M) in County Durham.
A call was made to County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, alerting them to the incident, at lights on the outside lane of the A688, at Bowburn, near to the junction 61, of the A1(M), on Saturday evening.
Pictures taken at the scene show flames licking the front of the vehicle while in front of a set of traffic lights.

The fire service confirmed a crew arrived on scene at 7.27pm and extinguished the blaze, which had engulfed most of the front of the green Ford vehicle.
There were no reports of any casualties in the incident which was swiftly tackled, as arrangements were made to move the stricken vehicle.
