There have been many iconic attractions introduced over the years - in 1951, they added The Rota which was the first ever spinning wall ride, and in 1958 Hook-a-Duck was established, reports The Hoppings website.

Why is Newcastle funfair called The Hoppings?
On the website, it says: “Several origins have been suggested for the name. Most relate to dancing, the word ‘hopping' meaning a dance in Middle English (old fairs included dancing as a spectacle).
“Another idea stems from the clothing that the fair operators used to wear. Lastly, the name may simply derive from the Anglo-Saxon word ‘hoppen' meaning funfair.”
The Hoppings funfair is located at Newcastle Town Moor, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE2 3NH.
