Police searching for a missing woman have confirmed a body has been found.

Specialist officers have carried out extensive searches for Sophie Lambert in the Harrogate area, but have confirmed that they had found a body in the River Nidd near Nidd Gorge on Wednesday (June 21) morning.

On Wednesday morning, North Yorkshire Police have said that it's too early to confirm the identity, Sophie’s family have been informed and are receiving specialist support.

A spokesperson for the police force added: "We ask that their privacy is respected.

"We thank everyone who has supported the missing person appeal over the last few days.

"A further update will be issued in due course."
