A driver has been arrested after dangerously driving three times the speed limit on a County Durham road this week.

A man has been arrested after reaching speeds of almost triple the 30mph speed limit shortly before midnight in Stanley on Monday (June 19).

Officers brought the pursuit to a safe conclusion with no injuries to anyone, while no damage had been done to any vehicles or property.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving whilst disqualified, driving with no insurance and a positive roadside drug wipe for cocaine.

Police confirmed the man was also wanted for failing to appear at court for driving offences.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "The driver of a Honda Civic failed to stop for one of our Durham Roads & Armed Policing officers in Stanley shortly before midnight last night.

"As he failed to stop, the driver reached speeds of almost TRIPLE the 30mph speed limit, putting members of the public at risk.

"Despite this, the pursuit was shortly brought to a safe conclusion with no injuries to anyone or damage to any vehicles/property.

"The driver was promptly arrested by SC3700 on suspicion of Dangerous Driving, Failing To Stop, Driving Whilst Disqualified, Driving With No Insurance and A Positive Roadside Drug Wipe for Cocaine."
