A man has been arrested after driving a motorbike with no helmet or registration plate and failed to stop when instructed by police.

The incident happened on Wednesday, June 14, in West Cornforth in County Durham.

The 30-year-old rider made off but then had to stop due to a flat tyre and was then caught by officers from Durham Police.

The man has been charged with failing to stop, disqualified driving, and having no insurance and will appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court next month.

A spokesperson for Spennymoor and Ferryhill Police said: “PC Phil Skevington was patrolling West Cornforth when a man with no helmet or reg plate passed him on a Yamaha motorbike.

“The rider made off when instructed to pull over but was thwarted shortly after by….a flat tyre.

“He was swiftly arrested and his bike seized.

“A 30-year-old man has since been charged with failing to stop, disqualified driving and having no insurance and is due to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on July 6.”
