Drivers will not be able to access the A174 eastbound off the A19 for ten nights from July 2 as the road undergoes major improvements for “smoother and safer” journeys.

Resurfacing work on a busy Middlesbrough road close to the A19 will see drivers face diversions and delays as National Highways carries out overnight roadworks.

The A174 eastbound, between the A19 and the B1365 Blue Bell Interchange will be closed for ten nights while National Highways resurfaces the road.

This means motorists will have to find an alternative route from 8pm and 6am every night from July 2 apart from the night of Saturday July 8 which will not be affected.

Drivers will also face a temporary daytime 50pm speed limit as well as overnight diversion routes for anyone travelling at night.

National Highways Project Manager, Michael Morgan, has stated the works will give drivers a smoother ride along the road.

He said: “Drivers will notice considerable improvements with smoother and safer journeys once this work has finished.”

“We are carrying out this work when traffic levels are lightest, in order to minimise disruption.

“However, we do strongly advise people planning to travel in the area during these closures to plan ahead, allow more time for their journeys and follow signposted diversions.”
