A new café has opened in Darlington town centre specialising in one particular English dessert.
The Bumble Crumble opened in Darlington indoor market yesterday (Thursday, June 15) and customers loved the idea of a crumble café.
The crumble bar and tearoom doesn’t just sell crumble. Sandwiches, hot drinks, and cakes are also on offer.
With a sun trap on West Row for customers to enjoy their food, this business will certainly attract people to try lunches and desserts while watching the world go by.

The café is owned by Kerry Greenbury and Tommy Murphy who are excited to see where the business goes.
Ms Greenbury said: “The business was my idea. I’d seen this sort of thing in London but it was take-out only so I thought there was a gap in the market.
“I’ve worked in retail management most of my life so this is a bit different, but we just hope that people like The Bumble Crumble and keep coming back.
“We’ve gone through seven kilos of crumble already today and we’ve got another batch on the way. Today’s been a bit stressful, well the last eight weeks has, but I’m glad we’re finally open.”

The Northern Echo headed to the café to get a feel for the business and the café has a lovely, homely feel.
Mr Murphy said: “It’s been a successful day. It’s been really busy. I’ve been washing up for about four hours. It was Kerry’s idea but I’ve helped bring it to life.
“Everyone’s commented on how it looks. We’ve had no complaints about the food or drinks. People have been enjoying sitting outside in the sun, so we’ve had a really positive day.”

Customers can choose which fruit crumble and there’s also a choice of custard or ice cream, and the ice cream was very popular in the hot weather we’ve been experiencing lately.
By lunchtime, Bumble Crumble had completely sold out of crumble, which goes to show just how much Darlington loves crumble.
