A woman has been arrested after a suspected stabbing sparked a huge emergency service response on Tuesday (June 13) evening.
Armed police, paramedics, fire crews and the air ambulance all descended on Sunderland Road in Gilesgate, Durham shortly before 5pm on Tuesday with eyewitnesses reporting the street being cordoned off with armed officers present.
Police have now confirmed they attended a laundrette on nearby Marshall Terrace after reports a woman had been stabbed in the premises.

She suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital where she is remains receiving treatment. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
A 43-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the incident. She remains in police custody at this time.
Officers are expected to remain at the scene for some time while enquiries are carried out.
Durham Police has appealed for any witnesses to come forward to assist their investigation.

A force spokesperson said: “Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information that could assist officers with their investigation, is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 366 of June 13.”

The North East Ambulance Service added: “We received a call at 4.53pm on Tuesday (June 13) to attend an incident on Sunderland Road in Durham.
“We dispatched a specialist paramedic, a paramedic ambulance, the air ambulance, a clinical team leader and a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) crew to the scene.
“One patient was taken to hospital by land ambulance, accompanied by a member of the helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) team.”
