Residents have reacted with shock and confusion after a woman was found dead at a North East address yesterday.

A 37-year-old woman has been found at an address on Cowpen Crescent in Stockton after a large police presence was seen in the area on Monday (June 12) evening.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 3.10pm following reports of a serious incident. 

Residents on the street have said they were left "shocked" and "confused" by the prescence of ambulance and police vehicles, as well as crime scene investigators outside the address.

The Northern Echo:

One resident on the street said there were about three ambulances, multiple police cars, and two forensics vans in the area.

They said they had just returned from holiday before being told by their family that someone had died.

They said: "[It's not usually like this], no, not here. I've lived here 40 odd years.

"I did get a shock at that, [I was thinking] 'bloody hell'.

"They had the lasers out last night, and I thought they were obviously looking for something."

The Northern Echo:

The resident said the CSI teams left the area at 4am after being in the area since yesterday afternoon.

Another resident on the street said: "We don't really know the story, we don't really know what's happened.

"They blocked off these roads [yesterday], nobody could get in or out.

"There was a lot of CID around here last night, they were taking a lot of boxes out.

"[I thought] what the bloody hell's going on?"

Flowers were pictured at the scene just outside the cordon in front of the property.

Two police vehicles, one car and one van, could be seen on either side of the address this afternoon.

The police presence was focused on several properties on Cowpen Crescent yesterday, with a police cordon in place for most of the evening.

Police officers from Cleveland Police remain at the scene whilst enquiries continue to establish the circumstances surrounding her death. 

A spokesperson from the police force added: "At this stage, her death is being treated as unexplained. A post-mortem will take place this afternoon. 

"Our thoughts are with the woman’s family at this time."

The North East Ambulance Service has confirmed that they attended the scene and sent two ambulances. 

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "We were called to a private address in the Cowpen area of Stockton at 3.10 this afternoon and dispatched two double crewed ambulances and a clinical team leader."
