A busy North East road was closed after a two-vehicle collision caused queuing traffic this morning.

Northumbria Police have confirmed A1 Northbound was closed after a collision between a car and lorry between the junctions of Kingsway South and Lobley Hill Interchange today (June 12).

They said they received a report of the incident at around 7:30am, and confirmed no one is believed to have been seriously injured in the crash.

The road is currently blocked while efforts to clear the road continue.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "“At around 7.25am today (Monday) police received a report of a collision involving a car and a lorry on the A1 northbound between the junctions of Kingsway South and Lobley Hill Interchange.

“Emergency services are currently at the scene and it is not believed that anyone has suffered any serious injuries.

“The road is currently blocked until it can be fully cleared.”

This comes after there were reports of queueing traffic due to a crash on the A1 Western Bypass Northbound between J67 Kingsway South (Coalhouse Roundabout) and J69 A692 Lobley Hill Road (Dunston Interchange).

An NEAS spokesperson said: "We were called just before 7.30 this morning to a two vehicle road traffic collision on the A1 at Lobley Hill.

"We dispatched a double crewed ambulance. One person was checked over at the scene, but do not require any treatment."
