Tens of thousands of fans flocked to St James' Park this evening Geordie megastar and Greggs fanatic, Sam Fender returned to Newcastle tonight (Friday, June 9) as he played to a sold-out crowd as he kicks off his tour with a homecoming show.
Sam is the first Geordie musician to headline St. James’ Park in Newcastle, according to Go North East.
The Will We Talk singer took to Instagram earlier in the day to express his excitement at playing at the stadium saying that it was a lifelong dream of his.
The Seventeen Going Under hitmaker had also earlier in the week revealed a collaboration with Greggs ahead of the shows, offering people a “pre-gig experience” at the Greggs’ Grainger Street shop in the city, as it transforms into a dive bar on both show dates.
Gates to St James' Park opened at 4.30, with fans taking to the stadium to watch support acts rock band Inhaler and Lincolnshire singer Holly Humberstone before the North Shields lad took to the stage at 9pm.
Sam will return to St James' Park tonight for another show before heading to Belfast on June 23. He will then go on to headline Glasgow's TRNSMT 2023 festival in July and the famous Reading and Leeds festival in August.
