A police investigation is appealing for witnesses after a hit-and-run incident left a woman in her seventies with head injuries.

Six months on from a collision that left a pensioner in hospital, police are now asking for incident witnesses to come forward and help them track down the driver and passenger.

The incident occurred at around 7 pm on January 8 on Longfield Road and involved two vehicles – a Kia, and an Audi A3, which is believed to be stolen.

The driver of a stolen Audi A3 is believed to have lost control of the vehicle and collided with the rear of a Kia, and the occupants of the Audi abandoned the vehicle and made off from the area, uninjured.

A woman in her 70s was treated by ambulance at the scene and taken to Darlington memorial hospital with head injuries.

The driver and the passenger of the Audi are yet to be identified and are both described as medium build, wearing dark clothing. The driver is believed to have been wearing shorts and the passenger wearing a hoodie.

PC Neal Jones, from Durham Roads and Armed Policing, said: “I want to appeal to members of the public and any witnesses to the collision for information or dashcam footage of the incident which could help us to identify the suspects.

“I also want to directly appeal to the suspects to come forward and speak to us and do the right thing. At the centre of this incident is a lady who has had her world turned upside down.

“I would also like to thank the public who assisted the lady at the scene and have helped us with our investigation so far.”
