An open invitation has gone out across Darlington to celebrate our Armed Forces personnel, past and present, and thank them for all they do.
Individuals, schools, community groups and businesses are encouraged to join in the celebrations as we host a special Raising the Flag ceremony in the Market Square on Friday, June 23, to mark Reserves Day (June 21) and Armed Forces Day (June 24).
It’s a chance to say thank you and show our support to all those who make up our Armed Forces, service families, veterans, and cadets.
Organised by Darlington Borough Council, the celebrations will be led by the Mayor of Darlington Cllr Jan Cossins with invitations sent to all councillors, other civic dignitaries, and representatives of the military.

The Mayor said: “This is a chance for us to pay tribute and say thanks to all those who have served with our Armed Forces, past and present.
“It’s a great honour for me to be part of this event which recognises their efforts and sacrifices, and I hope as many people as possible will join us in the Market Square.”
Councillor Amanda Riley, cabinet member for stronger communities, added: “We’re delighted to once again be able to raise the flag in tribute to our armed forces and look forward to welcoming as many local residents, schoolchildren, businesses, community groups and organisations to take part in this special ceremony.”
