An adventurous horse who got himself stuck in a ditch was rescued by a crack team of specialist firefighters.
Firefighters from Cleveland Fire Brigade and County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) were called out to Maltby, in Stockton, on Friday lunchtime after a horse got himself into a pickle.
Axle, a young grey horse, got himself stuck feet first in a ditch in his Maltby field.
Firefighters from Cleveland were called in to help the daredevil equine, and, with help from Bishop Auckland's special rescue unit, freed him using a "rear skid manoeuvre".

"Bishop Auckland Whites were the crew who attended and working together they used the animal rescue equipment to complete a rear skid manoeuvre, allowing the crews to move the Axle to a place of safety.
"Well done to everyone involved and we are pleased to report Axle is making good progress with his recovery."
