The company behind the £450m SeAH Wind project at Teesworks has put down its Teesside roots with a new North East base.

K2 Construction Management started work in the region less than 12 months ago and has already gone on to directly employ more than 45 people with a further 400 currently working through their local supply chain as they deliver the SeAH site.

Due to the increased demand for the business’s construction management and consultancy expertise and the growing number of major developments proposed across the region, the decision was made to plan for a long-term presence with offices at Commerce House in Middlesbrough.

At the launch event last week, Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen and local business leaders, heard about the business’s plans for expansion and how K2 Construction Management is investing in the local supply chain and employment opportunities as well as supporting the region’s communities, schools, and charities.

K2 is best known as the principal contractor, project manager and designer of the world’s largest monopile factory on behalf of South Korean firm SeAH Wind. A notable first for the business as it becomes the first business managing the construction of the first project at the UK’s first and largest Freeport on Teesside.

More than a billion pounds worth of construction projects have been developed and delivered by K2, including the £500m regeneration of Hale Village in London, a £10m scheme to transform Nile House in Brighton and extensive student accommodation blocks across the north, such as Artisan Heights Manchester, in partnership with Unite.

K2 Construction Management Director Steve Porter said: “Our expertise lies in the fundamentals of construction management, a model that allows large and sometimes technically complex projects, often with much final design work still to do, the ability to mobilise early and commence phases of work.

“Developing jewel in the crown schemes such as SeAH Wind comes with immense scrutiny, but it’s an environment in which we thrive, ready and hungry for the next venture.

“The Tees Valley is a hotbed of activity, so it naturally made sense to strengthen our position here by investing in our teams.
