Formal identification of the female whose body was recovered from the sea at Saltburn yesterday is still to take place, and enquiries are ongoing.

The Great North Air Ambulance, the North East Ambulance Service, and Cleveland Police were called to the scene just before 2pm yesterday (Sunday, June 4).

Enquiries into the circumstances of the female's death are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said yesterday: “Police were called to Saltburn beach earlier this afternoon by ambulance service colleagues who were responding to a report of a body in the water.

“Sadly the body of a female was recovered from the sea shortly afterwards. Formal identification has yet to take place, and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased person at this very difficult time.

“Enquiries into the circumstances of their death are ongoing.”

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call to 999 at 13.35 to reports of a body recovered from the water.

“The coastguard attended the scene and we dispatched two double crewed ambulances, a specialist paramedic, and the air ambulance.”

A spokesman for RNLI Redcar confirmed that at 1.53pm, both lifeboats were launched to assist with an incident between Marske and Saltburn.
