The body of a female was recovered from the sea at Saltburn this afternoon, while other emergency services were on the beach.

The Great North Air Ambulance, the North East Ambulance Service, and Cleveland Police were called to the scene just before 2pm today (Sunday, June 4).

Enquiries into the circumstances of the female's death are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “Police were called to Saltburn beach earlier this afternoon by ambulance service colleagues who were responding to a report of a body in the water.

“Sadly the body of a female was recovered from the sea shortly afterwards. Formal identification has yet to take place, and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased person at this very difficult time.

“Enquiries into the circumstances of their death are on-going.”

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call to 999 at 13:35 to reports of a body recovered from the water. 

“The coastguard attended the scene and we dispatched two double crewed ambulances, a specialist paramedic, and the air ambulance.”

A spokesman for RNLI Redcar confirmed that at 1:53pm, both lifeboats were launched to assist with an incident between Marske and Saltburn.
