Emergency services were on the scene to extinguish a serious fire at an abandoned North East factory.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) were called to a serious fire at a derelict former factory in Ryton last night (June 1).
The factory site covers 3000 square metres and the fire service said the blaze could have been "disastrous."

They said this was prevented due to the rapid intervention and efforts of crews and control.
A TWFRS spokesperson said: "What a fantastic response.
"Last night we were called to this fire at a derelict former factory in the Ryton area.
"It was a serious fire at a site covering an area of 3,000 square metres.

"But, thanks to the rapid intervention of crews and control, disaster was prevented.

They confirmed enquiries into the circumstances around the fire are underway.
