A County Durham man has been fined £600 after a council investigation found he wasn't authorised to transport waste and didn't assist council officers with their enquiries.
The man, who is 25 from Spennymoor, was issued with two Fixed Penalty Notices in relation to Waste Transportation Offences earlier this month.
Following an offence of fly tipping on February 14, 2023 near to Old Park Hall Farm in Byers Green, an investigation was carried by the local area warden and a Member of the Neighbourhood Wardens Fly Tipping Investigation Team from Durham County Council.

During interview, the male denied knowledge of the offence but was also questioned in relation to the collection, transportation and final disposal of the waste which was collected from a local business.
The man admitted collecting the waste and claimed to have disposed some of the waste at a local Recycling Company and had the documents to prove this, and that the rest was taken from his home by a “friend” for final disposal.
He was served a producer requesting both his authorisation to transport controlled waste and for the relevant Waste Transfer Notes to be produced within 14 days.
When he failed to do so he was issued with a £300 for failing to be authorised to transport waste, and a second £300 FPN for failing to produce the relevant documents in relation to the final disposal.
