Those looking to bask in the sun while enjoying a drink this bank holiday have a new venue to try, as Newcastle’s latest outdoor venue opens its doors.

Revellers heading out for the long weekend will be able to try out Frate, which officially opened on Friday (May 26).

Hoping to build on the success of venues like STACK, bosses are promising a destination for local street food, drinks, live sports and entertainment in a location which “gets the sunshine all day long”.

It will be open every day until 2am with bosses saying the venue will be fully heated.

The venue also has a big screen set to show the summer’s sporting action and host movie nights, and will host yoga classes and occasional vintage markets.

A three-year project, preparations for the new site saw an old three-storey building torn down and the old lot totally transformed.

Workers were still on site applying the finishing touches this week ahead of the opening.
