Popstar Sam Smith has cancelled the remaining dates of their upcoming UK tour dates after disappearing from the stage in Manchester last night (May 24).
The Stay With Me star left the AO Arena stage in the city after performing only four songs.
Sam had promised a “surprise” for fans in the arena, but they were left “bewildered” when the lights went out at the venue and the artist left the stage, reports BBC News.
It was also reported that the crowd was informed the singer was dealing with “vocal issues”.
Why has Sam Smith cancelled their UK tour dates?
In a statement posted on their Instagram stories, they said: "Due to vocal issues in last night’s Manchester performance, regrettably we will be cancelling the rescheduled Birmingham and Glasgow Sam Smith shows.”
In the post, a spokesman said: “Doctors have advised due to a vocal cord injury, Sam must have complete vocal rest.
“Sam is heartbroken to have had to cancel these shows but they have been told by doctors that if they keep singing, they will do permanent damage to their voice. If they take some rest they will be able to perform again.”
How can I get a refund for the cancelled Glasgow and Birmingham Sam Smith tour dates?
The statement also confirmed that refunds will be available at point of purchase for all three dates, including Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.
Sam ended the Instagram story with “I’m so sorry” along with a heart emoji.
For Birmingham ticket refunds, Resorts World Arena advises customers to direct any enquiries to their original point of purchase.
If this was the venue’s official box office, The Ticket Factory, contact Customer Services via their online form or call 0333 300 3010.

Sam Smith apologises after disappearing off stage at Manchester’s AO Arena
After Manchester’s show, Sam explained on the social media app that they had “fought off a virus a few weeks ago”, ahead of the European leg of their tour.
They added: "Today in soundcheck I felt fine and was so excited to give Manchester an amazing show tonight, with a special surprise at the end.
"During my third song, I noticed something wrong with my voice. I prayed it was just my voice waking up for the show but into the fourth song I could feel something was really wrong.
"I came off stage and have tried everything to get my voice back in gear but it won't.
"I am honestly heartbroken I couldn't finish the show tonight for you all. I love you all. I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry."
