A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “Police received a call from a passing motorist just before 7.10am today reporting debris on the A19 south (between the A689 to Hartlepool and the A1027), and an apparently damaged BMW being driven on that carriageway.
“The vehicle had come to a stop a short distance away as officers attended and a 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. Arrangements were made for the vehicle to be recovered, and enquiries are ongoing.”
