A fire that started in a wheelie bin and then spread to a property led to emergency services rushing to the scene in Stockton.

The fire service was contacted shortly after 5.30am this morning (Thursday, May 18) to St Peter's Road, Parkfield, Stockton.

The incident damaged the house and the crew was on the scene for about 40 minutes.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade said: “We were called out at 5.32am to reports of a wheelie bin fire in St Peter’s Road, Parkfield, Stockton.

“Two crews from Stockton Community Fire Station attended the fire which then spread to a property.

“One hose reel was used to extinguish the fire which damaged external cladding and bay windows.

“Crews left the scene at 6.08am.

“The fire is under investigation.”
