Three people have been taken to hospital after a multiple vehicle crash caused a County Durham road to close.
North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) have confirmed three people have been taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital following a three-vehicle crash on the A689 Newton Cap.
They confirmed they deployed a clinical team leader and a double crewed ambulance to the incident, which also saw a fourth person treated at the scene.
Police had closed the road and a diversion was put in place through Toronto.

An NEAS spokesperson said: "We were called just after 3pm to a road traffic collision on the A689, Newton Cap.
"We dispatched a clinical team leader and a double crewed ambulance.
"Three patients have been taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital and a fourth person was treated at the scene and is making their own way to hospital."
A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at around 3.10pm this afternoon (May 15) to reports of a three-vehicle collision on the A689 Newton Cap, Bishop Auckland.

"Three people have been taken to hospital as a precaution.
"The road is currently closed and a diversion is currently in place through Toronto."
According to AA traffic maps, the incident has now been cleared and the road has reopened.
