A 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the theft of a motorbike in Newton Aycliffe last night (Thursday, May 12).
A police helicopter was used in the search for the stolen motorbike, leaving residents speculating on social media about was happening.
The helicopter was reportedly seen near the boating lake at West Park, near the Oakleaf Sports Complex, at about 9pm on Thursday.

A spokesperson for Durham Police said: “Police were called shortly after 8.30pm last night (May 11) to reports of a stolen motorbike in Newton Aycliffe.
“Officers attended the area, along with the police helicopter and arrested a 16-year-old boy.
“The stolen bike was recovered and inquiries are now ongoing.”
