Landmark local election results were announced on Friday with the Tories suffering devastating losses across the North East.
Voters took to the polls yesterday (May 4) to elect councillors across the region.
Now most of the results have been announced with big changes to the make-up of councils in the Tees Valley.
Labour became the biggest party on Darlington and Hartlepool councils, missing out on a majority by just two single votes in the latter authority.
In Middlesbrough Labour secured a majority on the council and toppled Independent Andy Preston’s position as mayor.
Results in all five councils in the area – Darlington, Middlesbrough, Stockton, Hartlepool and Redcar and Cleveland – have all been declared.
Some counting is still to take place in Redcar on Tuesday (May 9) to confirm results
While in Stockton the final result will not be known for another month when a by-election called after the death of a candidate delayed the vote in one ward.
