Residents have been left appalled after an image emerged showing 'terrible' fly-tipping on a County Durham road this week.
Durham County Council (DCC) confirmed they received reports of fly-tipping between Long Lane and Binchester after an image emerged showing the mess on Monday (May 1).
The waste consisted of general litter, kids toys and horse manure which had been dumped in the middle of the road.

The council have confirmed a full investigation will be launched to determine those responsible and have appealed to the public for more information.
A DCC spokesperson said: “A full investigation will be carried out to determine who was responsible and we would encourage anyone who has information which may help with our enquiries to contact us.
“Working alongside our communities, we take pride in keeping our neighbourhoods clean and tidy, ensuring County Durham remains a great place to live, work and visit.
"There is simply no excuse for fly-tipping and it won’t be tolerated.”

Residents responded to a picture of the scene posted online with a mixture of fury and disbelief.
The image showed manure, sand, various plastic objects, and other waste items strewn across the road.
One angered resident said: "Christ all mighty, that’s got to be the [worst] fly-tipping I’ve ever seen."

Residents said the scene was "terrible," while another mystified resident said they had been left speechless by the act.
One resident said: "Catch them, get them to court, and make them pay for all the cleaning up and tipping it in the first place."
