The trial of man accused of murdering Norman Ryan has been delayed to allow more time for expert evidence to be collated.
The case of Kieran Potts was listed to start on May 15 but a judge has vacated that trial date during a short hearing at Teesside Crown Court.
Mr Ryan died in hospital on September 9, last year, more than a week after he suffered serious injuries in an alleged incident in Troutpool Close, Hartlepool, at the end of August.
Potts appeared at the crown court over a video link from Durham Prison where he is being held on remand.

The family of Mr Ryan described him as an 'entertainer' paid tribute to the loving son, dad, brother, uncle, and grandfather.
They said: “He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. He was such an entertainer and was always singing Elvis songs.

“He was very religious and was always telling his family to pray to the Lord.
“We will miss him enormously and would like to ask for some time alone to grieve in peace.”
A new trial date for the 23-year-old, of Moffat Road, Hartlepool, has yet to be set.
