World-renowned rollercoaster Nemesis is undergoing a huge refurbishment, and Alton Towers Resort has just given us a taste of what the new ride will look like once reopened in 2024.
The UK's largest theme park officially announced on September 21st 2022 that Europe's first inverted rollercoaster, Nemesis, would be closing to undergo a massive overhall which includes replacing almost all of the ride's track for a reopening in 2024 to scare visitors once again, ready for its 30th anniversary.
Seven months on from that initial announcement and nearly six months on from the ride's closing date, November 6th 2022, Alton Towers announced this morning that Nemesis will return with a brand new black and red paint job.
The track was manufactured in Ohio, USA and was announced to be on site this morning and is now being installed.
Formerly a beige-white colour with a fake rust effect, the brand new track will be black with bright red veins painted along its length.
The 250-tonne rollercoaster first opened on March 19th 1994 and has carried over 45 million people around its 716-metre-long track, diving underground and turning upside-down several times throughout its duration of over one minute.
Bianca Sammut, Divisional Director at Alton Towers Resort, said: "As Europe’s first ever inverted rollercoaster, Nemesis rightly holds legendary status among thrillseekers."
Marketing has already kicked in for this monumental project. Fictional military organisation 'The Phalanx' are depicted as investigators into supposedly unusual activity in the area.
Furthermore, a new viewing platform has been installed, looking over the active construction site.
Located next to the former Nemesis: Sub-Terra drop-tower attraction, which has been closed indefinitely since 2015 but is speculated to reopen following recent activity in the area, the 'Observation Deck' allows up to 30 people at a time to get a sneak peak at what is to come next year.
A 'Phalanx Operative' could be spotted outside the new viewing platform who, upon being asked a question, insisted that all information is classified. This is just one of the many small details put into place that create an exciting atmosphere in the 'Forbidden Valley' themed area, where Nemesis is located.
It is clear that Alton Towers have put much thought and effort into this world renowned attraction ready for its 30th anniversary in 2024. And, with this retrack giving Nemesis a new lease of life, here's to the next 30 years.
