Crime scene investigators are at the scene of a serious fire that has seen a static caravan and outbuilding destroyed. 

Firefighters from Cleveland Fire Brigade were called to Yarm Back Lane at around 4.15am on Wednesday (April 26) following reports of a large scale fire near some industrial units.

After arriving on the scene, firefighters battled the flames - but couldn't save a caravan and outbuilding.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade said: "The fire on Yarm Back Lane Stockton has now been extinguished. Four fire appliances used three 70mm Jets to extinguish the fire, which involved a Static Caravan and Outhouse.

"We will remain at the scene whilst damping down."

During the incident, residents could reportedly hear a loud explosion during the incident - with one resiodent saying: "Was there a loud bang as my wife was woken by something at about 4.30am?"

There were initial concerns about the safety of the animals - but someone has dispelled that rumour online by saying: "Just to let everyone know the kennels and all pets are fine it as the owner has told me and to put a post on,it was a caravan in the storage unit near by that set a light share please as owners will worry about there pets."

On Wednesday morning, crime scene investigators and fire investigators were spotted at the site of the fire - while police have since opened Yarm Back Lane in both directions.
