A man found lying on the ground near a beachfront property in a North East seaside town died from his injuries, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to Newcomen Terrace in Redcar at around 5.30pm after reports were made of a man with severely injuries.

Police closed the road and ambulance crews tried to save his life but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pictures circulating on social media show police and ambulance crews at the scene next to a broken window on the second floor of the Victorian terraced property, which has since been boarded up.

It is unclear if the broken window is connected to the incident at this stage.

Cleveland Police is investigating the man’s death and do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances.

A spokesman for the force said: “Police were called to Newcomen Terrace in Redcar at 5.30pm last night (Tuesday April 18) after reports of a severely injured man on the ground.

“Local road closures were put in place to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

“Very sadly the man was pronounced dead just before 6.30pm. Our thoughts remain with his family at this difficult time.

“The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious.”

The roads reopened at around 9.45pm.

The spokesman added: “We would like to thank any motorists and residents affected for their patience and co-operation. 

“We would also thank those members of the public who initially assisted the man while emergency services were en route.”
