Traffic tailbacks of up to four miles were reported on the A19 in County Durham as emergency services dealt with a two-car crash during rush hour.

Two vehicles collided on in the fast lane of the northbound carriageway of the A19 near the junction of the A689 at Wolviston. 

A motorist said there was 'absolute mayhem' as the vehicles are being removed.

The AA has reported "one lane One lane closed and queueing traffic due to crash, a car involved on A19 Northbound from A1027 (Norton Interchange) to A689 Coal Lane (Wolviston)."
