A teenager has been arrested and two people remain in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a horror crash on Sunday afternoon.
At least a dozen emergency vehicles and two air ambulances rushed to the crash on the B6282 in Eggleston, near Barnard Castle, between a Vauxhall Corse and Seat Ibiza shortly after 4.30pm on Sunday (April 16).
The driver and passenger of the Corsa were both airlifted to hospital, one to James Cook and one to the RVI, with life-threatening injuries. They currently remain under doctors’ care.

A passenger of the Seat was also injured and taken to hospital by road.
The driver of a third vehicle involved, a Honda Civic, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
The man, 18, remains in police custody while officers continue their investigations.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing emergency vehicles and the air ambulance coming in to land, with one saying “don’t think I’ve ever seen so many”.
The road remained closed for several hours on Sunday evening.
Officers are now appealing for information and dashcam footage to assist their enquiries.
