- Inderjit Klare, of Spennymoor, was arrested after the incident when police were called to Tenters Street shortly after 5am on Sunday, October 9, following reports of an assault.
- Paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service also attended, but his 40-year-old brother, Jasreet Klare, was pronounced dead at the scene.
