Two luxury hotels in the North East have been named among the best wellness retreats in the UK, according to new research.
Ramside Hall, in Durham, takes fourth place in the top 10 with 2,004 five-star Tripadvisor reviews and a rating of 4.0.
In tenth place is Maften Hall in Northumberland which has 78 five-star Tripadvisor reviews and a rating of 4.5.
The research conducted by Vaping.com collated a list of the UK’s best wellness retreats, hotels and spas, and extracted Tripadvisor ratings and reviews.
According to the Ramside Hall website, the hotel offers “luxury accommodation and first-class service.”
It says: “Once you’ve relaxed into your surroundings, our luxury spa provides the ideal opportunity to unwind, with one of the UK’s largest hydrotherapy pools, a state-of-the-art gym and a huge range of specialist treatments on offer.”
Meanwhile, on the Maften Hall website, the retreat is described as “the start of a journey for your mind, body and spirit.”
It adds: “The retreat invites you to indulge each one of your senses in a harmonious experience that transports you to a state of total wellbeing.
“Indulge in treatments and rituals tailored to your mind, body and spirit by our specialist therapists, or simply relax and enjoy our pool and poolside thermal suite.”

According to the data by Vaping.com, the top wellness retreats are:
- Gleneagles, Perthshire
- Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa, Hampshire
- The Grove, Hertfordshire
- Ramside Hall, Durham
- Pennyhill Park Hotel & Spa, Surrey
- Four Seasons Hotel, Hampshire
- Whatley Manor, Cotswolds
- Grantley Hall, North Yorkshire
- The Tree Relaxation Retreat, North Yorkshire
- Matfen Hall, Northumberland
In first place was Gleneagles, Perthshire – the Scottish location secured its title as the nation's favourite wellness retreat hotspot with 4,093 five-star Tripadvisor reviews and a 4.5 rating.
