Local school newspaper, The Hummersknott Academical, returns onto the scene with its eleventh edition, with a variety of impressive articles as they set their sights on the National Shine Media Awards for 2023.
The Hummersknott Academical made local headlines last year after achieving commendations and awards at the prestigious Shine Media Awards. After the release of the recent edition, the team is once again gearing up for this year's competition, hoping to replicate last year's success and improve on it.
At the 2022 Shine Media Awards, the Hummersknott Academicals took home two awards, including the Rising Stars award for up-and-coming newspapers. The team's hard work and dedication were recognized as they challenged several other schools to emerge victorious. Additionally, they also received the highly commended award for the Best Newspaper Front Cover.
The Press team made up of talented students from Darlington's local secondary school, Hummersknott Academy. Throughout the team they produce a range of media content from artwork to headline news. Their success at the Shine Media Awards last year was a testament to their creativity, hard work, and dedication to their craft.
Speaking about last year's win, the team’s teacher, Mr Webber, said, "We were thrilled to win the awards at the Shine Media Awards last year. It was a real team effort, and the students all worked incredibly hard to produce content that was worthy of recognition. Winning the Rising Star was the cherry on top, and we're all very proud of what we achieved considering it was our first year at the awards."
This year, the Hummersknott Academicals are back, and they're aiming to do even better. With several new members joining the team, they're full of fresh ideas and creativity which has been shown throughout the eleventh issue. The team have been hard at work across the past team to produce the content for this year's competition, and they're confident that they'll be able to impress the judges once again.
"We're really excited about this year's competition," said the editorial team. "We know that the bar has been set high, but we're confident that we have produced content that's even better than last year. We're all passionate about media, and we're committed to producing content that's both engaging and informative."
The Shine Media Awards are set to take place later this year, and the Hummersknott Academicals are eagerly waiting for the judging to begin. If last year's success was anything to go by, there's no doubt that this talented team will once again do their school and community proud.
