A person has been rushed to hospital after a collision between a car and a pedestrian on a busy County Durham road this morning (March 24).

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) have confirmed a person has been taken to University Hospital of North Durham after a car collided with a pedestrian on the A692 in Consett.

The incident took place on Consett Road Eastbound from A68 Front Street to Genesis Way.

An NEAS spokesperson has confirmed they received the report at 8:30am, and one emergency ambulance and one rapid response paramedic were deployed to the scene.

In a statement, an NEAS spokesperson said: "We were called at 08:30am to a road traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian on the A692 Consett Road, Consett.

"We sent one emergency ambulance and one rapid response paramedic. One patient was taken to University Hospital of North Durham."

According to AA traffic maps, the incident had caused severe delays on the A692 Rotary Way Eastbound, but this has since cleared.
