Hundreds of pounds have been raised in memory of two teenagers who died in a crash on Sunday (March 12).

Teenage pals Riley Hedley and Mikey Easton were pronounced dead at the scene of the incident on the A196 near Coopie’s Way, Morpeth.

Emergency crews attended the scene at about 12.40am on Sunday but the two teenagers sadly passed away.

They have since been named locally as 17-year-old Riley Hedley and 16-year-old Mikey Easton.

An online fundraiser launched in their memory and to help their families with funeral costs has so far raised almost £1,800 (as of 5pm on Monday, March 13).

Writing on Go Fund Me, organiser Kacie Grant described the boys as “best of friends” who were “very loved”.

Emotional tributes and flowers were left at the scene of the incident in Northumberland on Sunday.

Teenagers and family members were among those who paid their respects.

Police have said both families are being supported by specialist officers.

An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the incident.

Investigating officer Sergeant Craig Bartle described the incident as “incredibly tragic”.

He added: “Our thoughts go out to both the young men’s families and close ones as they attempt to come to terms with today’s devastating news.

“We will support them in every way we can and ask that the family’s privacy is respected.

“An investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and we’re asking for anyone who has not yet spoken to us to get in touch, especially if you were travelling in the area and may have some information or dashcam footage that could help our enquiries.”
