One man has been arrested after a car drove into a house and a number of other cars were destroyed by men in balaclavas with baseball bats and pick axes.

The incident happened at around 8pm last night and police believe the incident is a targeted attack in an ongoing dispute.

Eyewitnesses claimed that three cars have been damaged by "men wearing balaclavas". 

One witness, who preferred not to be named, said: "Men with balaclavas pulled up with pick axes and baseball bats destroyed three cars then drove into the house."

The area was cordoned off by police for a number of hours and officers conducted door-to-door enquires.

Durham Constabulary confirmed that one man had been arrested in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We can confirm that this incident is believed to be a targeted act as part of an ongoing dispute.

“One man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody. Enquiries are ongoing to arrest the other suspects involved.
